Scaffolding in New Forest
CISRS scaffolders covering the New Forest — Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst, Lymington, Beaulieu, Sway, Burley and the surrounding villages. Listed cottages, thatched properties, period repair.
The New Forest is a different kind of job to most of what we cover. It’s not a town — it’s a national park with maybe 30 villages threaded through the forest, and the housing stock skews heavily toward listed cottages, thatched properties, and period brick-and-flint farmhouses. National Park Authority planning oversight, conservation areas, and a lot of properties where you can’t just drill a tie-in into the wall. Almost every job here is bespoke.
What we do across the New Forest
Common work across the SO40–SO45 and BH24–BH25 postcodes:
- Thatch access — thatchers need scaffold positioned without compromising the existing thatch line. We’ve worked alongside thatchers across Lyndhurst, Burley, Sway and Beaulieu and know how to scaffold for the trade
- Listed cottage repair — flint walls, cob, lime render, exposed timber frame. Through-ties and weighted bases, never drilling into listed fabric. TG30 bespoke design as the default
- Lymington and the coast — Edwardian and Victorian seaside properties, Beaulieu River cottages. Render and repaint dominates because the salt exposure means more frequent refresh than inland
- Equestrian and rural-property work — large rural properties around Brockenhurst, Sway and Burley, often with multiple linked roofs and outbuildings. Long hire terms, sometimes multiple scaffolds running concurrently
- Holiday-let refurbishment — common across the popular village centres. Tight turnaround windows because the property is losing booking revenue every week the scaffold is up
The New Forest Authority has strict planning oversight on listed-fabric work. We’re set up to produce method statements and TG30 designs that match what their conservation team expect to see.
Areas we cover within the Forest
Coverage across the National Park and immediate fringe, 30–60 minutes from base:
- SO40 — Totton, Marchwood, Ashurst (the northern fringe — fastest from base)
- SO41 — Lymington, Sway, Pennington, Boldre, Milford-on-Sea
- SO42 — Brockenhurst, Beaulieu, East Boldre
- SO43 — Lyndhurst, Bank, Emery Down
- SO45 — Hythe, Fawley, Beaulieu Heath, Calshot
- BH24 — Ringwood, Burley, Bransgore (the western fringe)
- BH25 — New Milton, Barton-on-Sea
For SO40 and SO43 we’re usually on site within the week. The further west you go (BH24, BH25) adds drive time to the quote.
What it costs to scaffold a house in the New Forest
Forest pricing depends almost entirely on the property type — there’s no “standard” here:
- Modern fringe estate house (Totton, New Milton): £450–£750 standard two-lift wrap
- Period cottage with through-ties and TG30 design: £1,000–£2,000
- Thatch-access scaffold: £700–£1,400 depending on thatch type and access
- Listed coastal property: £1,200–£2,500 (Lymington / Milford / Calshot — salt-exposure plus listed-fabric considerations)
- Multi-roof rural / equestrian estate: £2,000+ — site survey essential before quoting
We always survey listed and period properties before quoting. The cost of a wrong tie-in approach on a listed cottage isn’t worth saving an hour up front.
CISRS-carded crews, £5m public liability, weekly statutory inspections included, quote back within 24 hours.
Why choose Stoneley for New Forest work
- Listed-fabric experience. Through-ties, weighted bases, designed cantilevers, lime-mortar awareness. We’ve worked across the Forest’s listed stock and our method statements pass NFNPA conservation review
- We work alongside the right trades. Thatchers, lime-mortar specialists, conservation joiners — they have specific scaffold needs and we know how to set up for them, not against them
- Long-hire flexibility. Forest jobs often overrun because the work is more careful than urban repair. Our weekly rate includes inspections all the way through. If your thatcher takes 12 weeks instead of 8, the scaffold cost doesn’t suddenly spike
